Nursery Reveal!

The nursery is finally done! The final curtain was hung on July 6th, our due date. Nothing like finishing just in time. :) Stephen took some nice photos for me to share this weekend as well. Some details have been blurred our or covered up, so you can zoom in all you want you still wont see her name or initials! After she is born I will post a few more pictures so you can see the details with her name. Some of them are diy projects Ellen and/or I completed so of course I want to make sure to share them! And NO Ellen doesn't know her name either. :) Without further ado, Baby K's nursery......

Crib skirt and curtains handmade by the fabulous Holly Jett! Fabric purchased from Fabric.com

Glider and ottoman from Land of Nod. Rug from Rugs USA. Shelf unit Ikea - Lack bookcase, spruced up with some gold shelf paper! Side table from a consignment store, painted by Stephen.

The dresser is a Craigslist purchase. I searched and searched Craigslist for a Mid Century Modern dresser to use as a changing table. I missed out on about 5 that sold that I wanted and thank goodness cause this one is way better than all the rest I tried to get.

The changing tray we got at Land of Nod and added balls on the bottom for feet to raise it up some and compensate for a ledge on the back of the dresser. The prints are from Etsy, Land of Nod, Zulily and ones we already had on hand.

The crib is from Wal-Mart and I love it. It is almost identical to a very expensive one I saw at Land of Nod when I was barely pregnant and I fell in love with it. Now I am crazy, but not crazy enough to spend over $900 on a crib! Wal-Mart has some really great cribs at reasonable prices. The mobile is hand made by a man in Portland. It is 5 different types of whales. The tall lamp is a Goodwill purchase, spruced up with paint and glitter. I will get detail pictures of the mobile and lamp up in the next nursery post.

A few more shots.....

Week 28 - Hello 3rd Trimester!

Where: Pike's Market, Seattle, WA

Week Recap ~
  • Total weight gain/loss : +21 lbs (no change)
  • Sleep : Ugg sleep this week was terrible. I got up one night 6 times to pee, 6! After that I started to make sure I cut myself off from liquids by 8pm, but some nights I was still up 4 times. To date I haven't had any big issues with falling back asleep, but a few nights this week after being woken up I was up for a good hour or more. Looking forward to some sleeping in and naps this weekend. (wrote this on Friday, extra sleep didn't happen this weekend. boo!)
  • Best moments : More nursery progress, purchased a glider and ottoman and started on a lampshade diy project (still tbd if it will work out). We also started to get more out of our baby class than we did the first week, so that felt good. Sunday was a really nice day out and we spent the morning downtown, something we hadn't done in a while. Walked around Pike's Market, bought some good looking fruit & fresh flowers and then we had a lovely brunch. It was some nice "us" time.
  • Movement : She's a movin! Before this week she really only moved on my right side, I never felt her on the left. A few times this week I have felt her all over, she must be practicing summersaults some days. I'm good with it, as long as her room starts to shrink she finds herself in a proper position for easy execution. hehe She also has been spending some time jamming herself into my right side. It is pretty uncomfortable and happens at night. Sometimes we can get her to move when Stephen talks to her, right where she's giving me pain. It is sweet.
  • Symptoms : Pretty crabby this week at the end of the day. I'm not crabby all day, but definitely at night. I am going to attribute this to my lack of sleep and being worn out from work. :)
  • Maternity clothes? : Yup, still in them.
  • Food cravings or aversion's? : Mostly the same, pizza & Mexican, but this week I also ate quite a few frozen breakfast sandwiches. Not something we keep around our house ever, but when we were at the store one night I just had to get some and have been eating them for meals (dinner even).
  • What I am eating : Lots of fruit, some Mexican, some Chinese, pasta, breakfast sandwiches, pork tenderloin. I need to work on veggies next week. I think I get twice the recommended fruit and maybe half the recommended veggies.
  • Exercise : Took two walks with Stephen and the dogs around the neighborhood. It was nice to have a break from some of the rain we have been having. They also helped my mood.
  • Gender : Girl
  • Labor signs : None. We know a lot more about what to be on the look out for now from our weekly class.
  • What I miss : Not waking up to have to pee all night! ha
  • What I am looking forward to : Non-baby related, but going to the Tulip Festival this weekend! I have missed it the last few years and I am really excited about getting to go this year.

Week 27

Where: The Pantry at Delancey, Seattle, WA

Week Recap ~

  • Total weight gain/loss : +21 lbs
  • Sleep : I am getting up more and more to use the bathroom, so no matter how good the sleep is it is always interrupted. I have also started waking up cause whatever side I am laying on starts to ache and I need to switch sides. Time to start looking into a new pillow routine I guess.
  • Best moments : This week had a lot of fun stuff happening. We had our first child prep class, a doctor's appointment, her crib came and so did the mobile we ordered. I am in love with the crib, it is just what I wanted. Steve is in love with the mobile(I like it a lot too). It is handmade from a man in Portland, OR. Sneak peak picture Steve took below.
Can you name the type of whale?
  • Movement : She's in there. This week she decided to try out something new in between dancing around. Often she would just be pushing what would feel like her whole tiny body or her head or butt right into my lower side. She often felt like she was just putting everything she's got into resting hard on me. You can feel on my belly how hard one spot is when she's doing this. It is neat to know exactly where she is, but also uncomfortable when she decides to hang out there for a while.
  • Symptoms : Not one thing is standing out. Some of these questions are getting harder the farther along I am, as "symptoms" just become how I feel all of the time.
  • Maternity clothes? : Yes and a lot of pjs and comfy pants this week.
  • Food cravings or aversion's? : Same as always, Mexican sounds great all the time. I also really wanted pizza this week.
  • What I am eating : Pizza, Mexican, chicken salad, salad, pasta, Malaysian food - we took a cooking class on Tuesday. It was super fun. We made two different Malaysian noodle dishes. I'm not sure they are anything we would make at home, but it was something different to do and we did learn a few spices that we will probably try out at home on something a little more simple.
  • Exercise : None. Bad me
  • Gender : Girl! Although you wouldn't be able to tell if you walked into her nursery right now. Everything is very neutral. It is following my plan though, so color will come later.
  • Labor signs : None.
  • What I miss : Been feeling huge this week. I know I am not huge (yet, ha), but it would be nice to not feel belly uncomfortable.
  • What I am looking forward to : Doing some more nursery work and starting up some crafts. Also, we are hitting up another large children's consignment sale and I am hoping we get some good things. And starting the third and last trimester of course!

    Other Happenings:
I crocheted this hat for baby girl. Although she will be born in the summer I just thought it was too cute to not make for a few pictures. It went super fast too.

Steve made a lot of progress on the nursery. Putting together the crib.
     And painting the room!

The dogs were extra sweet this week. They both sat on my lap looking cute.
And Yuri snuggled his dad at bed time. Look at how sweet his little face is.

Week 21

Where: Gasworks Park, Fremont, Seattle, WA

Week Recap ~

  • Total weight gain/loss : +13lbs
  • Sleep : Meh. I haven't slept that well this week. I get a few good hours in and then about the second time I wake up to use the bathroom I end up wide awake. I spend the next 2-3 hours tossing and turning. Poor Steve, a lot of the time this wakes him up too. At least then I have a buddy to talk to if we want.
  • Best moments : Spending time with my parents. With each of us living on different ends of the country we do not always get to see each other very much. It was good to have them around. Mom and I also registered at Babies R Us while she was here. I was glad we got to do something baby oriented together too.
  • Movement : She is starting to move around some more. I don't feel her a ton, but every now and then she makes herself known. Last night, after we had dinner, she was really kicking(punching?) in one spot. I let Steve know and he was able to feel her for the first time. It was really exciting. She would stop until I would start talking, then she would start it back up.
  • Symptoms : Bad sleep, using the bathroom a lot more and I also have some small back aches. It is usually just at the end of long days and I feel it when I go to lay down.
  • Maternity clothes? : Yup. My two pairs of jeans seem to be stretching out after just a few wears. I am starting to think they aren't the best fit. I am torn between if I should try on a different brand and get some new ones or just tough it out for the next 19 weeks.
  • Food cravings or aversion's? : I haven't really listed any aversions yet, but I do have some. They are a few things that pre-pregnancy we ate a lot of. Banh mi (Vietnamese sandwiches) sound terrible to me. They are one of the most tasty things ever (cheap too!) and the thought of eating a baguette really turns me off. One other is something we used to eat once a week, shwarma plates from Mr Gyros. The last time we had this I felt really uncomfortable afterwards, so this is more remembering that feeling than the sound of it that turns me off.
  • What I am eating : Oh man we ate a lot this week. With my parents in town we went out to a lot of good and nice meals. Crab club sandwich, fancy dinner with tons of small plates, Serious Biscuit, King's burgers, another nice dinner of crab cakes & clam chowder, sausages and chicken livers, just to name a few of the things we ate while they were here! Since we are moving we have also been eating out a lot. Not being the healthiest this week, but I am still having a lot of fruit.
  • Exercise : Some small walks and a good one on Tuesday with the birthday boy! Chewie turned 6 this week!
  • Gender : Baby Girl! (also my favorite thing to call her right now)
  • Labor signs : none
  • What I miss : A good nights sleep. Hope I can get one in this weekend when I know I wont have an alarm set.
  • What I am looking forward to : Moving! We got the keys to our new rental house last night. We are going to take some things over this weekend and move our storage unit. The big move wont happen until next Saturday though. We are also going to go look at paint for the nursery!

More happenings:

My Parents were in town!

I mentioned we ate a lot :)
Lunch at King's Hardware, one of our favorite spots.
Birthday dinner part 1 at Staple & Fancy Mercantile.
Birthday dinner part 2 at Ray's Cafe. Thanks for the new shirt Ellen!

We took advantage of having my dad in town and had him take a few shots of us together. We don't have any of both of us from the last 21 weeks! Here are just a few:

Thanks Dad!

This post is getting long :) But I cant go without posting pictures of the birthday boy. Chewie turned 6 on Tuesday!
After a nice walk around Ballard we went to the corner bar to celebrate with a beer and water :)

He loves going to the bar. He just chills in the booth the whole time. Happy 6th birthday buddy!

Ok one last thing :) I stoped during lunch one day in Marshall's and picked up these goodies. The purple & pink one will be going in the nursery. I am not sure where the black & white will go yet. We will have to see how we set up the new house. Thought they would be good for baby girls toy's. :)

Nursery Board

1. Color inspiration for baby girls room. I love how it has the few pops of colors. I found this on pinterest via a friends blog, but it originated from Design Seeds. A great site for color pallet ideas. Since we are renting we will most likely keep the room a neutral color. I am thinking something along the lines of the taupe color shown at the bottom.
2. Glider! I like this one from Room & Board and it comes in a nice pop of magenta. Stephen is very into the glider so I need to take him to the store to sit in it and weigh in. If you haven't heard of Room & Board you should check it out. It is a great modern furniture store.
3. I kind of like the idea of a floor poof instead of an ottoman. I am not 100% sure on this idea still, these ones came from a diy site using Ikea rugs. Of course we would want different colors. Possibly a grey or navy chevron would be nice.
4. I like the feminine touches on this dresser. This is one I found on pinterest. We plan on looking around at resale stores to try and find something with nice touches like the scallops that we can paint and change out hardware on. I might want to paint it a fun color or one of the purple/navy tones.
5. Crib! This is the exact crib we are going to get from WalMart. I fell in love with a crib that looks very similar to this one from Land of Nod. Biggest difference is that the Land of Nod crib is $900! This WalMart dupe is $200. Great savings and I still like the look.
6. I love this etsy poster and you can have the colors changed. I am not sure what colors I want it to be yet, but I am pretty sure we will order this print.
7. Another etsy item. I love the idea of a ven diagram with the three of our names in it. Again not sure on the colors we would have. We might try out a home made version of this print or just order it.
8. One more etsy print I like.
9. Curtain inspiration. These ones are from Land of Nod I fell in love with about 10 nursery ideas ago, when I was obsessed with yellow and grey. hehe. I like the idea of doing a solid curtain with a print thrown in. I currently cannot remember what the window situation is in the baby's room, so these might get scrapped for something else. We get the keys later this week though so I will be able to remember more about the room very soon! :)
10. I like how this fabric uses the magenta color with a bit of the green thrown in. Found it on fabric.com and it is a little pricey, but a good start for an idea. I plan on going to the fabric store to get some swatches and more ideas in the coming weeks. I like the idea of maybe pairing it with a solid navy for the curtains. What I am not sure is would something like this also look good as a crib skirt or would it be to busy? I have a wonderful seemstress lined up to help me out with the crib skirt :)
