WIN for KC

My first triathlon is in just a few days! I picked up my packet today and let me say tri's give you way cooler stuff than just running events. I got a sweet shirt, it is a New Balance sporty type shirt not just a plain old cotton t shirt, a water bottle and a small reusable bag. I'm starting to get nervous. I wish Saturday morning would just get here already! I will post how it went for sure, but I may avoid pictures due to the wearing of a lot of spandex...no one needs to see pictures of me in spandex. haha.

New York New York...West New York Too!

We just got back from taking Jessica to New York for her graduation present and of course visiting my parents and sister while we were there. We stayed at hotel James. It has the best hospitality in New Jersey, makes all my favorite foods and has built in tour guides with your stay! :)

Steve and I had not been in over a year to visit. We did a ton of things while there. Way too many to list, some we had done before but wanted to take Jessica to see and a few things we had not gotten to do before. If you want to see some of what we did check out pictures here.

It was a really good, much needed visit. I think Jessica had a good time and Steve and I were happy to be able to show her such a great city. As always it was great to see my family. I don't get to see them as much as I would like and this visit was wonderful. Thanks mom and dad for having us...Ellen too!

It's Official!

I am a tri-athlete. Well almost. I am signed up for my first triathlon. It is in 3 weeks. The WIN for KC Triathlon in Smithville, MO. It is an all women's triathlon. My friend Katie is a pro at tris and after she ran the Olathe half we started talking about how much she liked doing tris better. Then she told me about this tri training class she was thinking about signing up for. So I started swimming a little and decided to sign up for the class too. Every Monday for the last 4 weeks we meet in a park in MO and swim(in a lake) then bike or run. It is a 7 week class, so 3 more weeks to go. It has been a great learning experience. Plus it was through this class that I was able to get into the women's tri. It has been sold out since March! Way before I decided to get into this. I am excited that my first one will be an all women's event. I only here awesome things about it. I went a little over board today and I am signed up for 3 triathlons already this year. The one in July, one in August and one in September. Wish me luck!

Garden - Version 2010 Part II

Garden update! My garden is growing by leaps and bounds lately. Hopefully it makes it through our week away.
I am a little sad though that my lettuce is not doing so hot. I think I waited to late to plant it this year. It did awesome last year, but I planted it much earlier. I think we will get a few heads out of it, but not many. Oh well there is always the Fall to try again.

My deck plants...onions and cucumbers.

Roma tomatoes starting to grow.

Cherry tomatoes growing too! And just a few days after I took these pictures my Celebrity tomato plant started to fruit also. We are going to be in tomato city soon. Any good ideas on what to make with all of them or a good salsa recipe?
Eggplant...this is a first for me to grow this year. I think its looking pretty good so far.

Our first garden picked and ate veggie this year. A giant green onion. We picked it just to see how big they were getting. Then used it chopped up and sauteed in some ground turkey for tacos. It was delicious.
